Majors and Minors in Biology
UW-Eau Claire has something for everyone who is interested in biology. Choose from a variety of majors and minors that study everything from the tiniest organisms to the great blue whale. We also have a track of courses to prepare you for graduate or pre-professional programs. No matter which route you take, you will get the chance to get up close and personal with biology through lab and field experiences on campus — and even across the globe.

With various plant and animal collections, multiple greenhouses, and the James Newman Clark Bird Museum, Blugolds studying biology have a host of opportunities at their fingertips.

Blugold Stories
Collaborative research experience is at the heart of UW-Eau Claire's pre-med program. Whether you are working directly with a faculty member or a Mayo Clinic health professional, you'll gain the real-world knowledge and skills you need to prepare for a career in the medical field.
Some of my favorite memories in the program have been getting a close-up look at a day in the life of a neurologist, an ER doctor, a pediatrician, an orthopedic surgeon, a cardiologist — we were lucky to get a good taste of our future. That just doesn’t happen anywhere else.
Kevin Mayer’s research is leading to new ideas and ways of thinking. By studying red light signaling, Kevin found that corn stalks have the potential to be altered — yielding smaller plants with bigger cobs of corn. But meaningful data isn’t Kevin’s only takeaway. He’s also working alongside expert faculty, exploring career paths and enhancing his critical thinking skills.
I was scared going into research. I definitely felt imposter syndrome. How can I possibly qualify to be in a research lab? But once you start, you realize that the professors know that you don't know everything, and that's okay. The professors want to help you, teach you, see you grow. So, it's not as scary as you might think it's going to be. And I'm super grateful that I was able to start research so early because I've been able to learn a lot and hone my skills. I feel a lot more confident about going into my career.
