Science of Life LLC

The Science of Life LLC is for first-year biology majors. It also includes Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Ecology and Environmental Biology, and Microbiology majors. Live with others dedicated to learning more about the science of life!

Living

The Science of Life LLC is in the Karlgaard Towers residence hall in David Karlgaard Tower. The community meets regularly and engages in social and career exploration programming in the hall.

Learning

LLC members will take BIOPRIME, a two-credit gateway course that will introduce you to the importance of scientific literacy, communication, and analysis. Knowledge and skills learned in this course will increase your preparedness for BIOL 221. Participants will also take IDIS 187 to learn the skills to navigate college life successfully.

Programs and events

Science of Life LLC students will participate in department events and get the opportunity to know professors on a one-on-one basis. Members can also choose from several research opportunities with faculty and take part in field trips and other social activities.

How to Join

Choose your Living Learning Community preference on the housing application in the housing portal. The housing portal is all your housing information in one place.

If you are in a roommate group, make sure your roommate(s) indicate the same LLC preferences on their housing application. Otherwise, you will not be placed in the LLC.

Support

The Science of Life LLC is supported by RAs and Biology Department faculty/staff sponsors. Invested mentors from the Biology Department connect with LLC participants regularly to provide information, insight, and counsel that will help you be successful.
