A comprehensive approach to intervention

Widgets

The new Language and Literacy Clinic in the Human Development Center is staffed by faculty members and students from our nationally accredited graduate programs in communication sciences and disorders and school psychology. The clinic is located in the Human Development Center in the Human Sciences and Services building, 239 Water Street.

The clinic is a collaborative effort between communication sciences and disorders and school psychology faculty with expertise in language and reading development. The Language and Literacy Clinic offers comprehensive assessment, intervention, and consultation services, emphasizing the strong relationship between oral and written language and the influence of psychological and cognitive factors on reading achievement. Common referral concerns include reading and written language performance problems, including dyslexia.

  • Clients referred to the Language and Literacy Clinic typically do not need a more comprehensive evaluation like those offered by the Interdisciplinary Assessment Clinic, but they do benefit from a more comprehensive assessment of language skills and cognitive abilities related to literacy development.
  • Charges for assessments services provided by the HDC range from $200 - $300. In the event of financial hardship, clients may apply for reduced fees.
  • Client assessments typically take place on Thursdays and Fridays. Intervention services are offered across the week.
