First Year Experience

Some people are just super outgoing, have all the confidence in the world to walk into a crowd or a room and instantly start talking and feeling at ease. These people find change fun and exciting. And then there are the rest of us . . . face it, there are SO many changes for new students, it can be a lot to handle. We get it.

First Year Experience (FYE) classes are designed to help. They serve as your gateway to navigating campus life while offering invaluable opportunities to connect with fellow first-year students. You’ll also discover the abundant resources and support services UWEC offers all while becoming part of the Blugold community, both in and out of the classroom.

Two options for success

Your FYE class will be an immersive experience that prepares you for success and sets the stage for a fulfilling university experience. UW-Eau Claire offers two types of FYE classes: First Year Only (FYO) sections and Bundles.

First Year Only sections

In FYO sections, you will find yourself surrounded by your fellow first-year peers, creating a supportive community right from the start. Each FYO course is led by a dedicated faculty member who is passionate about helping you succeed. Additionally, a student mentor will be there to answer your questions, announce upcoming events and provide guidance as you navigate through your first year.

These FYO courses are typically 100-level courses spread across various disciplines, most of which fulfill a liberal education category. This diverse range of options ensures that you can explore your interests while building a solid foundation for your academic journey.

Bundles

For those seeking even more opportunities to connect and integrate their learning experiences, we offer Bundles. Bundles combine an FYO class with an IDIS 187 class, allowing you to deepen your connections with faculty members, gain insights into the integration between courses and forge friendships with your peers.
