Host Friend Program

The Center for International Education's Host Friend Program connects new international students with local community members to promote a positive transition into the Chippewa Valley and Eau Claire community.

Host Friends provide international students a family-friendly environment where they can adjust to daily American life. Students bring their own unique experiences, customs, and culture from around the world to share with our community.

There is no homestay requirement in the Host Friend Program. The expectations are that Host Friends and students connect at least once a month during the student’s first semester on campus.

How Do I Join the Host Friend Program?

There is an application for Host Friends and one for International Students. Click on the correct application link below to submit your application to the Host Friend Program! Please contact hostfriend@uwec.edu if you are unable to access the application link.

All Host Friends must successfully complete a background check, phone interview, and reference checks before being admitted to the Host Friend Program.

Application Priority Dates for Students

• Fall semester: Application is due August 1
• Spring semester: Application is due January 1
