Biography

Biography

Tom studied Linguistics and History in Stuttgart, Germany, after graduating with a Linguistics and German honors B.A, from Augsburg College, in Minneapolis (now Augsburg University) and then moved to Germany to study theoretical Linguistics. After completing his M.A. in TESL from the University of Minnesota, Tom worked in Stuttgart, Germany, for another 15 years as Director of Studies for a professional language school. Upon returning to the US in 2012, Tom began teaching in the Intensive English Program at UW-Eau Claire, and has since taught TEFL/TESOL courses in Second-Language Acquisition and ESL Assessment, as well as courses in Business English, U.S. Multculturalism, and Beginning German alongside his typical ESL courses in pronunciation and language skills. Tom's specialties within the Intensive English Program include pronunciation and vocabulary learning. Outside the university, he is very involved in the local music scene, playing trombone in a half-dozen bands, including the Sue Orfield Band, the Chippewa Valley Jazz Orchestra, and the Weapons of Brass Destruction brass band.
