The United States Department of Education requires institutions to disclose information for programs leading to professional certification or licensure. The expectation is that institutions will determine whether each applicable academic program meets state professional licensure or certification requirements and provide a general disclosure of such on an official university website.
In order to admit any new student on or after July 1, 2024 to a distance education program leading to certification or licensure that does not meet the state’s requirements for certification or licensure where the student is currently located, UW-Eau Claire must obtain a signed attestation form. The attestation form is available from the director of the program. Note that this only applies to prospective students as of July 1, 2024. Any student who is already enrolled in a program on July 1, 2024 will not have to submit an attestation form.
Certification/Licensure requirements vary from state-to-state and can change over time; they are established in a variety of state statutes, regulations, rules, and policies; and they center on a range of educational requirements, including degree type, specialized accreditation, total credits, specific courses, and examinations.
To qualify for a Certificate/Professional License, students may also be required to complete additional state requirements above and beyond the university’s educational requirements. These include, but are not limited to; examinations, criminal background check/fingerprinting, additional training, practicums, and/or payment of fees.
In accordance with federal rule disclosure requirements under 34 CFR § 668.43(a)(5)(v), UW-Eau Claire has taken reasonable efforts to determine whether its Certification/Licensure programs satisfy the educational requirements in states where prospective and enrolled students are located. This information is provided through the general disclosure on each program’s Academic Programs page as well as individual disclosures, as necessary, when a program will not meet the state’s requirements where that individual prospective or enrolled student is located.
