Feed My People and its board of directors selected both UW-Eau Claire and Chippewa Valley Technical College to receive Organization of the Year awards for their “invaluable contributions” to the mission of the food bank. The institutions “went above and beyond to engage their faculty and staff, and bring greater awareness and resources to our community,” according to Feed My People.
UW-Eau Claire has a strong history of community engagement and has made a positive impact on Feed My People. Multiple UW-Eau Claire groups, including the men's basketball team and various student organizations, have dedicated their time and efforts to volunteering as the university has “woven its commitment to our mission into its academic fabric,” according to Feed My People.
The food bank has been featured in UW-Eau Claire student projects and collaborations with several academic departments.
“These partnerships have deepened the university's engagement and provided valuable real-world learning experiences for their students, fostering a mutual relationship of growth and support,” according to Feed My People.
UW-Eau Claire’s Campus Harvest Food Pantry celebrated its 10th anniversary this year as it moved to a new, higher-visibility location in Davies Center. Blugolds picked out nearly 32,000 pounds of food and personal hygiene items at the Campus Harvest Food Pantry in 2023.
"UW-Eau Claire is committed to public service and being a community leader, which is why I am so grateful that Feed My People chose to honor our team," Chancellor James Schmidt said. "UW-Eau Claire has a long history of community engagement and excellence, and to be named the Organization of the Year is another example of the power of collaboration and the value our students, faculty and staff bring to our community."
Feed My People has served as a leader in hunger-relief efforts across west-central Wisconsin for 40 years. The food bank distributes seven million pounds of food every year through a network of partners, including community food pantries, meal sites, shelters and other programs. More than 75,000 individuals in a 14-county service area around Eau Claire rely on food supplied by the food bank.
