The University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire’s Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) oversees the university’s animal programs, facilities, and procedures to ensure the appropriate care and use of vertebrate animals in research, testing, and education. Their oversight is guided by federal regulations issued by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the National Institutes of Health Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare. Facilities at the university are inspected at least semiannually to evaluate compliance with the Public Health Services Policy on Humane Care and Use of Laboratory Animals.

Federal regulations require investigators to obtain approval of an animal use protocol by IACUC before commencing research using vertebrate animals.

Protocol Submissions

Protocol forms and submissions for new protocols, renewals, and amendments are all completed in the IACUC’s web-based Canvas program. If you believe you should have access to this page, contact Melissa Wallace, Research Compliance Specialist.

Animal Care and Use Training

Students and faculty must complete training prior to working with animals on campus, which includes basic information about the use of vertebrate animals in research along with species-specific training and Occupational Health and Safety training.
