Reciprocity is a benefit for which you must apply through the Minnesota Office of Higher Education (OHE). It allows students who are residents of Minnesota, attending a UW school, to pay tuition and fees comparable to those of in-state students.
The online reciprocity application is found at: www.ohe.state.mn.us. Under Paying for College, select Online Applications and then select Tuition Reciprocity. Be sure to select the correct academic year and provide your correct Social Security Number. You should receive a response, either by text or email, shortly after your application is submitted. The application deadline for UW-Eau Claire is the last day of classes (excluding finals week) for the term benefits are requested. Applications will not be processed retroactively.
If you have questions about reciprocity or want to check on the status of your application you can call 800-657-3866.
Applications for reciprocity are not processed by UW-Eau Claire. OHE electronically notifies UW-Eau Claire periodically throughout the academic year, of students who are awarded reciprocity benefits. Your tuition and fees are then adjusted to reflect this benefit. Apply early so that your tuition bills will reflect an accurate balance.
Once applied for, reciprocity renews annually and automatically until graduation. However, if you change schools, you must notify OHE so that your reciprocity benefits can transfer to the new school if applicable (private colleges do not participate in reciprocity). Additionally, if you take a semester or more off from school, you must reapply.
