CERCA has many events to offer all students and faculty members. Even if you aren't presenting research or a creative activity, you can still find a way to participate in the event!

Presentations from All Disciplines

CERCA Open Oral Presentations

The Open Oral Presentation sessions are oral presentations of research, scholarly, and creative work from students across all disciplines and all UW-Eau Claire campuses. Presenters may use a slide show or other visual aid during their presentation.

CERCA Open Poster Presentations and CVTC Posters

The Open Poster Presentation sessions include poster presentations and displays of research, scholarly, and creative work across all disciplines, all UW-Eau Claire campuses, and CVTC.

CERCA Performances and Films

The Performances and Films sessions include performance pieces and short films by students across all disciplines and all UW-Eau Claire campuses. Students are also asked to give a short talk about the performance and film.

Spotlight on First-Year Research

The Spotlight on First-Year Research session puts the focus on projects conducted or assisted by first-year students. First-year students present their posters and engage in conversation regarding their research.

If you are a first-year student who participated in research on your own or on a research team, you will be invited to participate in the Spotlight on First-Year Research.

The WiSys Quick Pitch Competition

The WiSys Quick Pitch Competition aims to encourage innovative and entrepreneurial thinking at UW comprehensive campuses. Participating students are empowered to consider the impact of the research they are currently undertaking or other innovative ideas they may have and how such ideas could ultimately benefit the local economy (e.g. development of a new product, technology, or service) and/or society (e.g. changes in public policy and/or benefits to the environment).

Besides cash prizes for winning teams in Science & Technology and Social Sciences & Humanities (including education, arts, and business), students learn to communicate their findings in an accessible way, sharpening important communication and presentation skills.

Discipline/Program-Specific Presentations

Global Experiences and Domestic Immersions Presentations

The Global Experiences and Domestic Immersions session includes oral presentations from students who in a domestic or international immersion experience such as the Civil Rights Pilgrimage, New York City: Aspiring Artists, Charles Darwin Research Station, Geomorphic Landscapes in Aotearoa, Hmong Studies in Thailand, Social and Environmental Justice in Guatemala.

If you have participated in a domestic intercultural immersion, international immersion, or the international fellows program consider presenting your research as a part of this session.

Latin American and Latinx Studies (LAS) Capstone

The Latin American and Latinx Studies Capstones are oral presentations of culminating research projects from Latin American and Latinx Studies majors.

NOTA Spring Reading

The campus literary magazine None of the Above, NOTA, which publishes a biannual collection of the top student submissions in the categories of art, poetry, and prose, hosts students reading their original written works.

UWEC Mathematics Retreat

The UWEC Mathematics retreat is a celebration of the research done in the Math department at UWEC.  The event features talks given by students and faculty members on topics that they have been researching independently, in the context of student-faculty research, and during their classes.  During the afternoon it concludes with a keynote speaker (TBA) and a fun team-based mathematics competition.  

Anyone seeking more information or who is interested in participation in the mathematics retreat should contact Christopher Davis (Daviscw@uwec.edu) or else any member of the mathematics department.

Population Health and Leadership Colloquium

Nursing majors give oral presentations of their research at the Population Health and Leadership Colloquium. The students will showcase their population-based leadership projects in which they advocated for the elimination of health disparities to promote and maintain health with diverse populations, communities, and cultures.

Provost's Honors Symposium

The Provost's Honors Symposium is an annual event showcasing exceptional student research, scholarship, and creative activity at UWEC. Faculty mentors and departments nominate outstanding student projects, which are then reviewed by the University Honors Council. The Provost convenes the symposium, where selected students present their work in a professional conference setting. A companion event to CERCA, PHS is sponsored by the University Honors Program and the Provost’s Office.

Preparation and Professional Development Events

Center for Writing Excellence (CWE) Drop-In Student Support 

During CERCA, CWE interns will be available to support you as you prepare to present. More specifically, interns will be available to support participants with: 

  • Mock-poster presentations 
  • Oral presentation delivery 
  • Responding to audience members not from your discipline 
  • Alleviating nerves and anxiety by talking out ideas
