Evidence of English Proficiency
Attestation of English Proficiency - Required for all students

You need to submit an Attestation of English Proficiency form, even if English is your first language or if your home university is taught in English.

Bring the Attestation of English Proficiency (PDF form) to a representative of your home university or English Language school for them to complete and return to you. Then you will take a clear picture or scan of the completed form and email it to the UWEC International Program Assistant, Samantha Maurer (maurersl@uwec.edu) for submission.

Proof of English Proficiency - Required for some students

If English is not your first language, you must submit additional proof of English proficiency. You may prove English proficiency in one of five ways:

  • TOEFL iBT total score of 75 or 541 institutional
  • IELTS overall score of 6.0
  • Duolingo English Test overall score of 115
  • Demonstrate successful completion of a CEFR (Common European Framework) C1 English course on an official transcript
  • Your home university is taught in English

Email one of the above proofs of English proficiency to UWEC International Program Assistant Samantha Maurer (maurersl@uwec.edu) for submission.

If you have a score less than the TOEFL iBT total score of 75 (or equivalency), you will be required to take an English as a Second Language placement test during orientation. Based on the test results, you may be recommended ESL courses.

At a minimum, you are required to have a TOEFL iBT total score of 48 or IELTS overall score of 4.0 to be enrolled at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. If you do not submit English Proficiency now, you will be required to demonstrate English proficiency upon arrival.

Proof of Finances

You must provide proof of finances, as this information is required for the student visa. There are two parts to this step, the Financial Verification Form and Certified Financial Documents. Email the documents from both parts to Samantha Maurer (maurersl@uwec.edu).

Part 1: Financial Verification Form

The Financial Verification Form will show you an estimate of how much it will cost to attend UWEC and it will have you plan for the costs. There are two different Financial Verification Forms. Only complete the form that applies to you.

Part 2: Certified Financial Documents

It is required that you get Certified Financial Documents to prove that what you wrote in the Financial Verification Form is accurate. All of your financial documents need to be certified and less than 6 months old.**  Documents that are not certified and/or are more than 6 months old will not be accepted.

If you use scholarships or loans to pay for your education, you also need to provide certified financial document(s) showing those funds will be available to you while you are at UW-Eau Claire. For example, if you use government loans to pay for educational costs and are studying at UW-Eau Claire during Fall 2024, you must submit certified financial documents showing that you have loans for the Fall 2024 semester. If you are having difficulties getting the certified financial documents for your scholarships or loans, communicate that in an email to Samantha Maurer (maurersl@uwec.edu).

**Specific instructions on which types of certified financial documents you need to gather can be found in the Financial Verification Form.
