Biography
As the Director of the University Honors Program at UW-Eau Claire, Heather Fielding aims to develop transformative learning opportunities and to support an inclusive, diverse community of high-achieving, highly motivated students. Before coming to UWEC, Dr. Fielding served as Associate Dean of the Honors College at Purdue University Northwest and as founding director of the Honors Program at Purdue University North Central.
In addition to her work in honors, Dr. Fielding is a professor of English. Much of her research considers how writers in the first half of the twentieth century thought about reading: why we read, what it does to us, and what our reading does to books. She also works in the field of Ukrainian and Ukrainian-diaspora fiction, with forthcoming articles on the role of literature in early twentieth-century debates in the English-speaking world about Ukrainian nationhood. She is the author of Novel Theory and Technology in Modernist Britain (Cambridge University Press, 2018) and was a Fulbright Scholar in Ukraine during 2018-19.
