Biography
Alexander Henton was Principal Horn of the Hyogo Performing Arts Center Orchestra in Japan from August 2014-August 2017. In 2018 he was appointed Principal Horn of the Sichuan Symphony Orchestra in Chengdu, China. In 2022 he became a SphinxFellowship recipient. In 2023 Alexander competed in the Sphinx Orchestral Partners Audition (SOPA) and was a finalist that received the award of Outstanding Musician, Horn.
Alexander is from Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin and graduated high school from the Interlochen Arts Academy. He went on to earn a Bachelor's degree in Horn Performance and Music Theory from Temple University studying with Jeffrey Lang and Denise Tryon. For graduate study he went to New England Conservatory and earned his Master's degree in Horn Performance. He has had additional instruction from Karl Pituch, Frødyis Ree Wekre, Tsutomo Isohata, and Szabolcz Zempleni
During his time in Japan he was lucky to perform alongside guest musicians from major orchestras worldwide including, Berlin Philharmonic, Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, The Philadelphia Orchestra, The Chicago Symphony, NHK, Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra and many others. Currently he freelances in the Twin Cities and is a substitute in the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Minnesota Orchestra and the Omaha Symphony.
