I’ve been tutoring for three semesters, and I’ve loved being able to have conversations with so many people on campus. It’s been amazing to see what students are exploring in the different disciplines. When I’m tutoring, I lean into a conversational approach where writers can sit back from their writing and try to verbally explore their writing. I love working on creative writing projects in the center, but I love brainstorming and seeing what areas we can explore in a session. When I’m not in the center you can find me in The Spectator office delivering news to the campus.

Hi, I am McKenna Dutton, an intern at the Center of Writing Excellence. I have been working at the writing center for three semesters, and I have loved every second of it. I am currently a senior at UWEC and a marketing major with a minor in creative writing. I love the writing center because it has provided me with a community of people who love writing as much as I do, and I get to work with student writers of all levels. Besides the writing center, I also have a group on campus called Future Creatives where student creatives get together to make time to be creative. In my off time, I love writing, reading, watching movies, and spending time with friends and family.

Hello! My name is Anna Ganje (she/her), and I am majoring in Social Studies Education. During my three years working at the CWE, I have loved getting to know all different types of writers, learning about many different disciplines, and implementing a collaborative approach to sessions. In my free time, I enjoy playing Code Names with my family, going on walks with friends, and playing the New York Times games.

Hello, my name is Bonnie (any pronouns), and I am a Communications (Communication Studies Emphasis) major with a minor in Theatre Arts and a certificate in Creative Writing. I’m a sophomore settling into my second semester interning here at the Center for Writing Excellence, and I’d like to be a collaborator with you on whatever writing you bring into the center! I know it can be difficult to offer up your writing to another pair of eyes, but I promise that I’ll meet you wherever you’re at to make things a conversation. When I’m not in the center, you can find me involved with theatre (on-campus and off), with the UPC (UWEC Photography Club), or at home finding something else to fill my time (mostly YouTube and video games).

Being an intern at the CWE since the fall of 2024, I am excited to assist you in your writing (because I adore it). Hello! My name is Brennen Bolopue (he/him). I am a Political Science Major with a Minor in English Rhetorics of Science, Technology, and Culture. As an Intern for the Center for Writing Excellence, I enjoy connecting with Writers of all backgrounds. Each session adds a new definition of what it means to me to be a writer. I love American history, law, politics, and English; however, I am ready to help with any subject! When I am not working in the center, you will find me preparing for a Mock Trial tournament or researching how to cook my next meal. I find pleasure in reading mystery novels or books that leave you thinking after you finish putting them down. I am excited to help you with anything you need. Happy writing!

My name is Caleb Reiss and I have been working at the writing center as an intern for one semester. My interests include literature, writing, and sports. I specialize in literary essays such as rhetorical analysis or literary criticism, specifically eco-criticism and gender theory. When tutoring, I try to take a laid back and conversational approach, making collaboration a point of emphasis. I enjoy working with writers of all perspectives and look forward to collaborating with you over the semester.

My name is Chloe (She/They) and my major is English, critical studies with a creative writing minor. What I love most about tutoring is that it provides me with the opportunity to instill confidence in writers. I strive to make writers feel comfortable sharing their ideas. Some things I like to do for fun include spending time with friends, being in nature, and meditating.

My name is Eric Lange (He/Him), and my major is English: Creative Writing. I have been writing academically for a long time, and as a hobby for even longer. I have a particular affinity for story theory/writing. This skillset stems from my status as a cinephile and an audiophile: I have a long list of favorite movies and TV shows, and the largest of my 40 Spotify playlists contains three days' worth of music. At the end of the day though, I am first and foremost a storyteller. So please, storywriters show me what you got!

My name is Eryn LaNou, I major in English: Critical Studies, and my pronouns are They/Them. My favorite part of tutoring is helping writers get their ideas and their voices onto the page. As such I take a solution-oriented approach to tutoring, focusing on the effects of writing rather than strict rules of structure or composition. Though I am happy to help with any kind of writing I excel at working with analysis and developing narrative structure. When I'm not in the center I spend my time weaving, ideas and threads.

Hi! My name is Hayden Kinstler (he/him) and this is my first year tutoring at the CWE! I love seeing all the different possibilities for writing. Rather than just essays, I enjoy how the CWE works with all different styles, and I've already learnt a lot about other subjects! I have a relaxed approach to tutoring—I take a session as a conversation rather than a lesson. Having written a lot of scientific reports, I can confidently say I don't have all the results, but we'll definitely get your questions answered eventually! In my free time I enjoy rock climbing; my favorite spot I've climbed so far is a place called New River Gorge in West Virginia!

Hi, I’m Jayson! I’m currently a third-year English-Creative Writing major and Journalism minor and I’ve been working in the CWE since the Fall 2024 semester. I love talking about writing with my peers, pitching ideas to others and hearing them pitch their own. My approach to tutoring tends to be focused on helping the writer understand/create ideas and concepts, which can involve me asking a lot of questions, but I also like to keep things casual. My favorite type of writing is fictional prose and poetry, but I’m willing to help writers who come into the Center with any type of writing. I’m also an enthusiast of roller coasters and marble racing who happens to be working on a novel in my free time.

I am an English-Rhetorics of Science, Technology, and Culture major and Creative Writing minor. I have been working in the writing center for three semesters. My favorite part of tutoring is being able to collaborate with students on all types of writing, from traditional essays to resumes. I feel particularly skilled in areas of creative, technical, and grant writing. Things I like to do when I have free time are reading and hiking.

This is my second year as a Writing Assistant in the Center for Writing Excellence! I love the writing center because it gives me the opportunity to engage with work in different disciplines. I love being able to hear other students' perspectives on essay topics, classes, and research, and being able to help and guide writers through the process. As a communications and English student, I personally love to work in gathering sources for research papers, argumental and theoretic essays, and finding intersectional and inclusive ways to critically analyze situations or texts. I also intern in the GSRC and am a student programmer for Q-Fest!

Hello! I’m Maggie O’Brien (she/her) and I’m a third-year English & Language Arts Teaching and Creative Writing student. I’ve been tutoring for two semesters now, and I adore showing writers how much potential and talent they have to offer. While tutoring, I always encourage writers to really show themselves in the piece or assignment they are working with. I particularly enjoy working with creative writing pieces or assignments that offer more creative liberty. Outside of the center, I love being outside and doing arts and crafts such as collaging, crocheting, making jewelry, and upcycling or making clothing.

Hi! My name is Makenna Hawkins(she/her) and I am a communications sciences and disorders major, with a minor in neuroscience. I started tutoring in the fall of 2024, and enjoy all steps of the writing process, whether that be brainstorming, the last look, or anything in-between. To me a good writing center session looks like a laid back conversation that leads to productive ideas. I particularly like to work on rhetorical analyses, citations, outlining, and organizing messy thoughts. As someone who has ADHD, I am a VERY messy writer but really enjoy finding what makes it all come together. Outside of the center, I enjoy being with friends, being outdoors, and going for coffee runs! I look forward to working with you!

Hi! I'm Michael, and I’m a new tutor at the CWE! I've only been at it for a semester so far, but I already love the job, especially being exposed to all the different ways students write for other disciplines! I approach tutoring through collaboration, with the goal being to give students advice and to help them improve as a writer during our time together. I am especially knowledgeable and interested in the disciplines of political science and history, and, of course, I love to read and help with works of creative writing! When I'm not at the center, you can either find me at BMB/BAB events with my trusty trombone, or somewhere deep in the library reading about obscure 20th century elections!

Hi! I am a Healthcare Administration major, and my pronouns are she/her/hers. I have been out of English 397 and tutoring for two semesters now. What I enjoy most about tutoring is the opportunity to connect with students and learn more about their writing. Building these relationships is key to creating a collaborative and supportive environment. My tutoring approach involves giving writers the space to fully express their ideas, working through their essays paragraph by paragraph, and offering examples to help guide their process. I especially enjoy working on application essays and healthcare-based writing, as they allow me to connect with the writer and contribute valuable insights. Also, I absolutely love candles and have quite a collection at home!

Rachel Thompson is a Social Studies Education and Public History major student at U.W. Eau Claire. She's been tutoring for just over a year and loves helping students put their voice on the page. She approaches tutoring as an exercise in which writers can share their thoughts and decide how they want to translate them into writing. As a history nerd, Rachel enjoys reading through the occasional history paper that comes through the door — though she appreciates all kinds of writing. In her free time, Rachel likes to read, bake, and play the piano.

I'm Requel! I'm an English Linguistics major with a Japanese minor and I've been tutoring here for about two years. Aside from writing, I love art, Nintendo games, and geese. Sometimes, the answers you seek were inside you all along---all you need is a second person to prod 'em to the surface. I love being that person and helping others on their writing journeys. I'm excited to work with you on any assignment, but I especially love creative writing! I look forward to seeing you at the CWE!

Hello, my pronouns are they/them, and while I am a Healthcare Administration Major, I have always had an immense passion for writing and literature ever since I was young. I find that “tutoring” can be a bit daunting from some angles, but the way I see it is, at the end of the day it is merely a conversation between two people about writing in this case. I aim to keep things comfortable and relaxed while still making sure people come away with sessions feeling great about their work and that their time was spent worthwhile. From being a sounding board for ideas, to working on grammar, to even prepping final drafts, I hope to be able to make sure that you’re proud of what you’ve achieved, without stressing out about it in the meanwhile. You’ll make it through, and you have all the ideas and concepts needed, I’m just here to help make sure they sound just how you envisioned it.

Hi, my name is Sophia, and my pronouns are she/her. I’m a Junior, hoping to graduate a semester early, with an English Creative Writing Major, French Minor and Linguistics Certificate. I spend most of my time hanging out with friends, studying in the library and reading and writing for fun. I’m also a member of the Neuroscience Club on campus. I get very excited about all forms of writing but I’m most passionate about topics concerning social justice, feminism, history, critical analysis, creative stories and poetry. I’ve also had experience peer- reviewing graduate level writing as well as science writing. This is my first year as an intern at the Center for Writing Excellence and I look forward to contributing to the inclusive and welcoming environment at the center. See you there!

Hi! I’m Zach (he/him), an English Education major here in the CWE. I’ve worked in the writing center for over a year now and have developed a conversational and creative approach to my sessions, in that I strive to help people get out of the traditional or “standard” style of writing and instead steer clients toward a creative way of presenting information. I feel that I’m best equipped to help with more literary-focused subjects like English, writing, rhetoric, philosophy, etc., but I am open to learning new things from all majors and backgrounds! Most of my background and love for writing comes from the books I read and have written, of which there are three (and more to come!).

Hi there, my name is Zach Sato (He/Him), and I am a Business Management major from Oswego, Illinois. Something I love about tutoring has been all the new people I have been able to meet; and the satisfaction I get seeing someone leave a session feeling reassured and confident in their work. I take a more conversational approach to my sessions, and love to get to know people's stories and backgrounds. I would say I specialize in persuasive style writing, especially applications and resumes. When I am not in the center, I am the team captain of the Blugold Wrestling Team.
