Four ways to make money in Eau Claire this summer

There’s nothing we love more than a beautiful summer in Eau Claire. From catching live music in Phoenix Park to floating down the Chippewa River, the vibe is always immaculate. Aside from all the fun, however, you might be wondering where you can get a job to make some extra cash. The good news is — there are a lot of different opportunities for part-time jobs and paid internships on campus and in our community. Get a job on campus 

If you’re living in Eau Claire over the summer, getting a job on campus is a great way to make money. Here are a few examples of departments often hiring summer student workers: 

Work for Recreation and Sport Operations 

UW-Eau Claire Recreation and Sport Operations offers a vast number of employment opportunities, particularly for students. In fact, it’s one of the largest employers on campus, providing experiences that connect academic learning with self-discovery and growth. Get outside and work for the grounds crew

Explore jobs within Housing and Residence Life

UW-Eau Claire Housing and Residence Life hires students to work as front desk receptionists, mail sorters, security staff, weekend custodians, maintenance staff, recycling, ResCom (computer support), upholstery and more! Join the Event Services team 

Event Services employs, on average, 50 students each semester and has three teams of student workers — Event Production Crew, Student Building Managers and Usher Corps. Occasionally there are opportunities to work summer events too! To apply, visit the Event Services office in Davies Center 240, and request a student employment application. Consider doing research

Did you know there are research, scholarship and creative activities during the summer? Did you also know that you can get paid to do research? It's true. Summer programs through the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs are funded by Blugold Commitment Differential Tuition. Awards include funds for student stipends, faculty stipends, supplies, services and research travel. Stop by the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs or talk to your professors to learn more about opportunities to do summer research.

Find an internship

Maybe you’d like to use your summer to get career experience with an internship. Organizations both local and across the world offer internships for college students to give you a chance to apply your education to the workplace and develop new skills. And you never know — an internship could lead to a full-time job after graduation.  

If your internship is a paid position, it’s just like having a summer job that applies to your future career path. If you find an internship in the Eau Claire area that sparks your interest but doesn’t offer compensation, you can apply for funding from the Eau Claire Internship Fund, which provides funding for students completing a local unpaid internship. If awarded, the Eau Claire Internship Fund could pay you up to $3,000. Find out more about getting an internship. 

Get a job in the Chippewa Valley

If a campus job, research or internship is not for you, consider finding a job in the Chippewa Valley. Countless businesses and organizations are looking for help over the summer.
