College of Nursing and Health Sciences announces 2021 Awardees

The opening College of Nursing and Health Sciences meeting held August 26, 2021, via Zoom due to the pandemic, featured the announcement of the 2021 faculty and staff awards. The College presents these awards to publicly recognize the outstanding contributions that individuals have made to the college, campus and/or community.

 

CeCelia Zorn Exemplary Teaching

Awardee: Dr. Pam Guthman

This award was created to recognize excellence in teaching in the clinical and/or classroom environment. 


Ihle Family Award for Caring

Awardee: Dr. Linda Young

The Ihle Family Award will be based on demonstration of behaviors associated with caring and awarded to a nursing student, alumni or member of the faculty/IAS of the College of Nursing and Health Sciences.


Patricia M. Ostmoe Award for Faculty & Academic Staff Excellence in Clinical Instruction

Awardee: Ms. Jane Hauger and Ms. Vickkie Zietlow

This award recognizes excellence in clinical instruction and will be awarded annually to a member of the faculty or teaching academic staff of the Department of Nursing.


Rita Kisting Sparks Faculty Service Award

Awardee: Dr. Dalete Mota

This award recognizes excellence in service and will be awarded annually to a member of the faculty or teaching academic staff of the School of Nursing.


Sue Peck Holism and Integrative Services Award

Awardee: Dr. Lorraine Smith

The award will be presented to faculty/staff member(s) members of the College of Nursing and Health Sciences whose initiative fosters the practice of holism and/or the integrative therapies by the nurse, as part of the required nursing curricula. The award will be awarded annually.


Suzanne Van Ort Award for Faculty Creativity and Scholarliness

Awardee: Dr. Ann Aschenbrenner

The Dean's Award will be based on creativity and scholarliness and awarded to a member of the faculty of the Department of Nursing.


Mary and Fred Bliss Nursing Faculty Professional Development Award

Awardee: Dr. Lorraine Smith

The award is given to a pre-tenure faculty member for the purpose of building their scholarship portfolios for tenure and promotion. The award supports activities such as research, manuscript development, faculty-student collaborative research, and conference travel. Ms. Bliss is a 1978 graduate who worked as a CNS in maternal child nursing and later in hospital administration. Mr. Bliss is professor emeritus for the Department of Plant Sciences at the University of California-Davis.


Colleen and Tom Nevins College of Nursing Faculty Development and Scholarship Award

Awardee: Ms. Catherine Wildenberg

The award is intended to encourage currency in one’s specialty and engaging in scholarship. The award includes assistance in achieving a PhD or DNP degree, research towards achieving tenure, and scholarship activity.
