Biography
April Bleske-Rechek earned her BA in psychology and Spanish at UW-Madison (1996) and her PhD in psychology at the University of Texas at Austin (2001). After two years of postdoctoral research in applied individual differences at Vanderbilt University, she joined the psychology department at UWEC, where her teaching and research efforts focus on scientific and statistical reasoning and individual/group differences in cognitive abilities, personality traits, and relationship attitudes. Dr. Bleske-Rechek runs the Individual Differences and Evolutionary Psychology (IDEP) lab, and over the years much of her research with Blugold students has been published in a variety of peer-reviewed journals, including Human Nature, Evolutionary Behavioral Sciences, and Personality and Individual Differences. A strident supporter of free expression and viewpoint diversity, Dr. Bleske-Rechek is an active member of Heterodox Academy and the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression (FIRE) faculty network. She has received several teaching and mentoring awards, including her university’s Excellence in Mentoring and Excellence in Teaching awards as well as the Council of Undergraduate Research (CUR) Mid-Career Mentoring Award.
