Position Descriptions

* Federal Work-Study (FWS) is a federally funded program which gives students with financial need an opportunity for part-time, temporary employment. This employment is intended to allow students to earn money to help pay for their educational expenses. The FWS program encourages students to gain valuable career-related experience as well as promotes community-service employment opportunities. To become eligible for FWS, you must first demonstrate financial need by filling out the Federal Application for Student Aid (FAFSA). Students who are eligible for aid are sent an award letter which indicates the type and amount of aid to be received. If a student is eligible to earn FWS, the amount of eligibility will be listed on the award letter.

** Non-Federal Student Employment allows students to work on-campus under a non-federal work account. This employment is NOT based on need. This employment is intended to allow students to earn money to help pay for their educational expenses and encourages students to gain valuable career-related experience. Any student is eligible for Non-Federal Student Employment. A student is considered to be anyone enrolled in at least one credit of course work.


Student Funding Request

Recreation and Sport Operations values student development and leadership. For Students who are currently employed by the department, funds have been set aside to financially support events/training that are considered necessary for employment or will otherwise benefit the student and the department.  This may include a workshop, training, conference, certification, bringing in a trainer or speaker, or hosting a certification or training. 

  • Student must have approval of their supervisor
  • Student pays for the training/conference and is reimbursed after successful completion
  • If at least one semester remaining of employment with Recreation – up to 100% covered
    • If training/conference happens with at least one full semester of employment, up to full support will be considered based on past performance and length of time employed by Recreation.
  • If employed by Recreation and in the final semester at UWEC – up to 50% covered
    • If training/conference happens in the final semester or after, partial support will be considered based on past performance and length of time employed by Recreation.
  • Student must complete a Final Report and Travel Expense Report with all receipts in order to get reimbursed at the approved amount.
