Intro

Building on UW-Eau Claire’s strong foundation in healthcare education, we will expand our ability to attract students eager to be leaders in addressing real-world healthcare challenges, especially those affecting rural communities. Groundbreaking collaborations with Mayo Clinic Health System and other partners are anchored in our commitment to liberal education and an interdisciplinary healthcare network that facilitates research, scholarships, pre-medical and pre-professional support, and learning opportunities for students across healthcare careers.

Our Strategies

  1. Establish a healthcare education network that brings together faculty and students from across disciplines and connects their learning and work with community collaborators to benefit rural and regional healthcare delivery.
  2. Anchor the network in a physical space that becomes a hub for collaboration, real-world student learning, and innovative research.
  3. Create a healthcare education advisory board with internal and external stakeholders to guide and support the network and identify program priorities and opportunities.
  4. Examine the healthcare academic programs across the university to enrich academic experiences and build connections across programs. Identify and launch new healthcare programs that address regional, national, and partner needs, as well as student career aspirations. Includes doubling enrollment in the BSN nursing program in five years.
  5. Design and implement a marketing strategy for current and new healthcare programs to build awareness, expand recruitment and enhance institutional reputation.
  6. Strengthen support for healthcare students, including enhanced career and graduate program transition, annual graduate program and professional school fairs, support for student healthcare organizations, expanded clinical, research, and professional student opportunities, a mentoring program for healthcare majors, and a healthcare living-learning community staffed with a medical resident.
  7. Develop programming, experiences, and opportunities to attract new healthcare students, including a healthcare scholars program, summer research programming for high school and entering students, and healthcare-focused dual- enrollment opportunities.
  8. Expand philanthropic efforts to support new programming, signature experiences, and funding for instructors.

Develop relationships and partner with regional and national medical and professional schools to enhance experiences for students and promote their successful matriculation to post-baccalaureate healthcare programs. Explore potential on-campus medical school programming.
