Our Moment of Opportunity

Our strategic vision is focused and change-directed for challenging times. It is a plan that empowers us to control our own destiny, celebrates and builds on the excellence for which we are known, and challenges us to accelerate specific change to propel us forward.

UW-Eau Claire in 2030

Our goal is to become a premier institution in our region and beyond, with exemplary healthcare education serving as a beacon to attract students. It is to open our doors to more students, no matter their field of interest, who are motivated to learn and who seek a place to belong and to challenge themselves to achieve excellence. And it is to affirm our intention for growth, strength, and leadership as a university for the future.

Our Shared Values

Our values unite our vision and are woven into everything we do. For faculty, staff and students, our five core values are:

  • A spirit of innovation that inspires us to explore new opportunities, experiment, and move with alacrity, in order to better serve our students and their futures.
  • A passion for collaboration in service to the common good, both across the university and more broadly with our communities, supporting partners, and friends.
  • A commitment to liberal education, the knowledge and skills that build the self-awareness, critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity that are hallmarks of a UW-Eau Claire graduate and empower students to navigate a diverse and changing world.
  • A shared responsibility for excellence, inspiring students to high academic engagement and achievement.
  • A dedication to opportunity and belonging, assuring that all are able to discover, learn, create, and thrive.

Meeting the Campus Mission
UWEC's 2030 strategic plan is tied closely to our longstanding mission.

This Is Not a Conventional University Strategic Plan

You won’t find an exhaustive list of programs we already excel at — our unwavering commitment to excellence remains as it has for more than a century. Nor will you encounter a document burdened with dozens of goals and strategies. Instead, we prioritize transformative efforts with the greatest potential impact, benefiting our students and the greater good.

What you will find is a disciplined blueprint tailored for these challenging times — a plan designed to fortify our university’s strengths, celebrate our heritage and commitment to sustainability, and accelerate strategic changes that will propel us into a brighter future.

This plan outlines clearly what our priorities will be for the coming years as we seek to enhance our reputation, serve our students better, and open wider our doors to more Blugolds.

Our Three Vision Pillars

To ready ourselves for a strong future and enrollment growth, we will focus our work on three change pillars.

Pillar One: Academic Excellence and Belonging
From the moment students connect with us, they feel part of a vibrant learning community, marked by the Blugold difference — intentional, immersive, and affirming experiences that arouse their curiosity and prepare them for active learning and instill high expectations for academic and personal success.
Pillar Two: National Leadership in Healthcare Education
Building on UW-Eau Claire’s strong foundation in healthcare education, we will expand our ability to attract students eager to be leaders in addressing real-world healthcare challenges, especially those affecting rural communities.
Pillar Three: One University - Multiple Doorways
We will create new pathways for students of all ages and backgrounds to enrich their careers, explore new opportunities, and take advantage of the transformative power of the Blugold experience and Blugold degree.

Guidepost Goals

The following guidepost goals and targets will be achieved by 2030:

  • 12,000 FTE total student headcount enrollment, all campuses
  • 100% student participation in signature active-learning experiences including community engagement, undergraduate research, internships and clinicals, and immersion experiences.
  • 90% first- to second-year undergraduate student retention
  • 60% four-year graduation rate
  • Zero opportunity gap in participation, retention, and graduation rates
