Biography
Dr. Trent Jacobs is Senior Lecturer of bassoon and music theory at the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire and of bassoon at the University of Wisconsin Superior. Trent is an innovator on the bassoon, expanding the possibilities of electric bassoon amplification and effects processing as the creator of the "Little-Jake" electric bassoon pickup, and actively pursuing non-standard performance opportunities to use these innovations. Trent's musical interests are unique and varied, having a history of jazz and rock guitar, barbershop quartet singing and a strong commitment to the performance of contemporary and improvised music.
Dr. Jacobs’ pedagogical strategies incorporate traditional bassoon solo, etude, and orchestral repertoire with a customized approach to technical and musical development centered on the needs and desires of each student. His students frequently perform music that involves improvisation, electronics, and music by a wide variety of composers. He has had students aged 7th grade through 70+ years old, many of whom have achieved success in all-state ensembles, prominent undergraduate and graduate programs in both music and non-music related fields, or in secondary classrooms preparing the next generation of musicians.
