Biography
Stephen K. (SK) Stone is University of Wisconsin Eau Claire dance faculty in the department of Music and Theatre Arts. As a member of both the American Guild of Musical Artists and Actors Equity Association, his extensive history among performance, direction & choreography, and teaching interests traverses the genres of ballet, concert dance, musical theatre, theatre, and opera.
SK's academic positions have included Associate Professor of Dance at the University of Arkansas Little Rock; Director of Ballet, including the American Ballet Theatre Summer Intensive, at Wayne State University; Assistant Professor and Director of Dance at Western Kentucky University; Visiting Assistant Professor at Towson University; and Director of Dance at the Governor's School of North Carolina. Fall 2024 begins his second season teaching at Diamond School of Dance, here in Eau Claire.
Notable choreographic works include two premiere ballets: a futuristic adaptation of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein (Roxey Ballet) and The Masque of the Red Death based upon the short story by Edgar Allen Poe (Bowling Green—Western Kentucky University Symphony Orchestra), and a pioneering evening of integrative work entitled SEEING VOICES – A Dance Concert for Both a Deaf and Hearing Audience (UNC Greensboro). His production revue choreography has been featured upon the stages of Carnival Cruise Lines (Miami), and both the Tropicana Resort and Bally's (Las Vegas). His more recent choreographic work includes the productions of My Fair Lady, The Winter’s Tale, and Much Ado About Nothing with Arkansas Shakespeare Theatre, as well as UWEC’s productions of Godspell, Orpheus in the Underworld, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, and the artistic direction of the Confluence Dance Project. During Fall 2023, SK staged a suite, Nutcracker Dreams, in partnership with the Chippewa Valley Symphony Orchestra and Diamond School of Dance, which was performed to a sold-out theatre on Saturday, December 9 in the Pablo’s Royal Credit Union Theatre.
Favorite performances include ten seasons as Herr Drosselmeyer in Ballet Arkansas’ The Nutcracker, Tinman in The Wizard of Oz at Murry’s Dinner Playhouse, and multiple roles in Mary Poppins at both Arkansas Repertory Theatre and Murry’s; all in Little Rock.
