Biography
Amanda Profaizer is a Full Professor of Costume Design in the Department of Music and Theatre Arts at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire (UWEC). Amanda received her MFA in Costume Design from Utah State University in 2006 and served as their costume shop manager and adjunct faculty member of costume construction for ten years before joining the UWEC faculty in 2011.
Amanda has worked professionally with the Utah Festival Opera, Wisconsin Shakespeare Festival, Old Lyric Repertory Company, and The Grand Theatre. She worked as a costume shop technician for the Utah Shakespearean Festival, Pioneer Theatre Company, and also served as a design assistant with NBC's Saturday Night Live. Amanda maintains an extensive record of award winning designs and spent two summers in Washington D.C. at The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts showcasing her work and studying alongside renowned designer Ming Cho Lee and Constance Hoffman.
An addition to teaching and designing costumes, Amanda is actively involved in mentoring undergraduate research projects, supporting local school or community theatre productions, and conducting technical workshops throughout the region. Amanda enjoys interacting with others, demonstrating the breadth of creative opportunities provided by the theatre arts, and hopes to inspire and encourage others to pursue lifelong learning and creativity.
Some of Amanda's favorite designs include: The Pirates of Penzance, She Kills Monsters, Sweeney Todd, West Side Story, Don Giovanni, James and the Giant Peach, King Lear, Seussical the Musical, and Medea.
