The option to substitute a course with an independent study, special topics or directed studies course with a focus on the Middle East is also available for the minor specifically. Studying abroad in a Middle Eastern country while pursuing the program is highly recommended. This is an excellent way to step outside your comfort zone and experience firsthand other cultures, traditions and lifestyles. The Middle East studies minor also allows for the learning of additional languages like Arabic, Turkish, Persian, or Modern Hebrew.

Through a variety of coursework, you'll learn basic knowledge of Middle Eastern history, politics, religion, and culture and and apply a variety of methodological approaches by carrying out research. Deconstruct stereotypes and misconceptions through familiarity with the diversity of Middle Eastern culture and society.
