The Sonnentag will host its inaugural commencement exercises on Dec. 21 when 659 University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire students will graduate during two ceremonies at the new facility.

Sections

Candidates for graduation in the College of Business and College of Health and Human Sciences will receive diplomas at a 9 a.m. ceremony.

Candidates for graduation in the College of Arts and Sciences and College of Nursing will receive diplomas at a 1:30 p.m. ceremony.

A total of 596 students are candidates for bachelor’s degrees, including 220 from the College of Arts and Sciences, 158 from the College of Health and Human Sciences, 146 from the College of Business and 72 from the College of Nursing.

Sixty-three students are candidates for graduate degrees. In the College of Business, 48 Blugolds are candidates for master’s degrees. A total of 12 students are candidates for master’s degrees in the College of Arts and Sciences and three students are candidates for master’s degrees in the College of Health and Human Sciences.

During the 9 a.m. ceremony, the alma mater will be led by Lauren Johnson of Richland Center, a candidate for a bachelor of music education degree.

During the 1:30 p.m. ceremony, the alma mater will be led by Audrey van Boven of Barrington, Illinois, a candidate for a bachelor of arts in music degree.

Meadow Barone of Cadott, a candidate for a bachelor of arts degree in English and language arts teaching, will deliver “Blugold Reflections” at the morning ceremony. Anna Westby of Stillwater, Minnesota, a candidate for a bachelor of science in nursing degree, will deliver “Blugold Reflections” during the afternoon ceremony.

Dr. Tayo Sanders, one of UW-Eau Claire’s two Rhodes Scholars, will deliver the “Charge to the Class” at both ceremonies. Sanders, co-founder and managing partner of Arrowpoint Labs and chief business officer of Singular Immune, is among seven alumni and friends of the university to be recognized during the commencement ceremonies as UW-Eau Claire Alumni Association award recipients. Recipients are: Sanders, Outstanding Recent Alumnus Award; Kimera Way and Jason Jon Anderson, Honorary Alumnus Award; Jeffrey Kowieski, President’s Award; Heather Hoytink, Alumni Distinguished Achievement Award; and Leiv Erik Lundberg and Dr. Kathleen Hanlon-Lundberg, Lifetime Excellence Award.

Ceremonies will be broadcast live on the UW-Eau Claire website, as well as on Facebook and YouTube.
