POSITION: A full-time, professional academic staff position is available in Facilities Management starting in January of 2025. The position is titled Custodial Services Supervisor. This is a renewable appointment, with salary determined based on experience and qualifications.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma.
  • 3 years of custodial or related work experience.
  • Proven experience in progressively leading staff.
  • Valid driver licensed and ability to be approved to drive a state vehicle.
  • Basic understanding of building mechanical systems.
  • Must be able to read, understand, and perform standard operating procedure and work instructions including, but not limited to understanding cleaning products, with their intended application and use.
  • Basic computer skills to complete on-line forms, access communications and information, and review and respond to emails (Outlook)
  • Ability to:
    • read and understand cleaning procedures, cleaning practices, written work instructions (WI) and written standard operating procedures (SOPs)
    • stand and walk throughout an 8-hour shift
    • work independently and within a team setting
    • lift, push or pull 40 to 75 pounds
    • perform overhead work
    • climb ladders
    • effectively communicate using a hand-held radio
    • receive and provided feedback in a positive constructive, collaborative manor

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • An associate or bachelor’s degree.
  • 5 or more years of custodial or related work experience.
  • 3 years of supervisory experience.
  • Previous industry cleaning knowledge and experience in a team cleaning environment using custodial equipment.
  • Advanced knowledge of floor care practices, both carpet and hard floors.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusiveness.

DUTIES:

Reporting to the Custodial Services Program Manager, this position is responsible for overseeing Custodial and Custodial Team Lead roles across multiple building on the UWEC campus, with potential supervision of student staff. Direct interaction with Custodial personnel is key to ensuring effective management. Along with supervising staff, the role involves contributing to the planning, development, organization, and implementation of short-term, medium-term, and long-term goals for the custodial services unit.

THE UNIT:

Facilities Management is the division of UW-Eau Claire responsible for the operation and maintenance of 29 major buildings, 177 acres of developed land, and 186 acres of undeveloped land. Facilities Management is made up of several different sub-units including Material and Supply Store, Surplus Store, Mail Services, Grounds Maintenance, Building Trades Shops (Carpentry, Controls, Electrical, Lock, Mechanical, Paint, Plumbing), Capital Equipment Inventory, Custodial Services, Heating Plant, and Vehicle Maintenance Shop.
