Student Support Services: Career Development Coordinator
Job Information
POSITION: A 60% academic staff position (24 hours per week) is available in Student Support Services (SSS) beginning Fall 2024. The official title of this position is Student Affairs Program Specialist, and the working title is Career Development Coordinator. This position reports to the Director of SSS. This individual is required to work in the office within the standard hours of 7:45am to 4:30pm. This position is contingent on grant funding, with an expected salary of $27,000-31,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- A master's degree from a regionally accredited institution
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience with the administration of academic and career assessments
- Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills, with ability to establish supportive relationships with students
- Experience providing classroom instruction or conducting workshops
- Awareness of the concerns facing students who are first-generation/low-income
DUTIES:
- Assist with the interviewing and selection of program participants.
- Conduct individual and group career counseling sessions to promote students' retention and graduation.
- Administer and interpret academic and career assessments, such as the Noel Levitz College Student Inventory and the Strong Interest Inventory.
- Perform outreach to encourage students to secure internships, engage in service learning, and assume leadership toles that will strength their career profiles.
- Provide assistance with resume development, interviewing skills, and job-seeking strategies
- Assist in supervising students mentors and planning learning-community activities.
- Teach a section of General Arts and Sciences 100, Foundations for Academic Success, to facilitate the transition of new program participants into the university environment.

- Collaborate with faculty and staff in academic departments and student service units to address the educational needs of the project participants.
- Perform other duties, as assigned, to promote students' academic achievement, retention, and graduation, including managing social media platforms, alumni relations, etc.
THE UNIT:
The TRIO Student Support Services project receives funding from the U.S. Department of Education to promote the retention and graduation rates of 300 eligible students who are from low-income households, are first-generation college students, or have disabilities. The Career Development Coordinator contributes to this objective by assisting the students in setting career goals, gaining access to career development experiences, and preparing for and conducting the employment search.
