Position:  Two tenure-track faculty positions at the rank of Assistant Professor are available in the Department of Mathematics in the College of Arts and Sciences.  This appointment carries an initial two-year probationary appointment beginning with the 2025/2026 academic year, on August 18, 2025. Earned doctorate in the area of data science, statistics, applied mathematics, mathematics, or related field required by August 18, 2025.  The successful applicant will

  • present evidence of teaching excellence at the undergraduate level.
  • demonstrate potential to teach data science courses involving Python at the undergraduate and master’s level.
  • demonstrate ability to teach a wide range of undergraduate mathematics and/or statistics courses, both for majors and non-majors.
  • exhibit potential to establish a research program involving undergraduate research.
  • exhibit potential to contribute service to the Department, University, community, and profession.
  • possess a commitment to equity and inclusiveness in teaching.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching or conducting research in Python.
  • Potential to contribute to interdisciplinary collaborations in existing areas of departmental and university strengths, such as actuarial science, bioinformatics, computer science, engineering, or physics.
  • Potential to contribute to curriculum development and growing the university’s developing programs in artificial intelligence or robotics.
  • The Department is especially interested in applicants who bring diverse perspectives to the University, and those who may be especially effective in mentoring and advising students who are members of groups that have been historically underrepresented in the discipline.
