Nursing: Clinical Learning Center Simulation Specialist

POSITION: 
The Department of Nursing is recruiting for a full-time professional academic staff position at the Eau Claire campus. This is a renewable position, contingent on performance. The Simulation Specialist is an in-person position in the Clinical Learning Center (CLC) for the Department of Nursing in the College of Nursing and Health Sciences. The Simulation Specialist is a key member of the CLC team by providing essential lab management and operating simulation equipment to create learning opportunities. On-the-job training will be provided. The position requires flexibility, initiative, willingness, and the ability to solve problems utilizing best practices and established policies and procedures.  The position works under general supervision and reports to the Director of the Clinical Learning Center. The ideal candidate will be able to prioritize multiple competing tasks and work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students. This individual must be committed to positively contributing to the quality of work life for all college employees.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

• At least two years of recent healthcare or patient care experience.
• An associate degree with healthcare licensure or equivalent degree.
• Excellent organizational skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
• Good work habits including attendance, punctuality, accountability, thoroughness, and resourcefulness. 
• Work independently, in a team environment, and in collaborative efforts. 
• Ability to communicate positively and professionally with co-workers, faculty instructors, students, and clients in the Clinical Learning Center. 
• Comfortable with a variety of technology, including video and audio equipment.
• Willingness to learn new technology.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Demonstrated commitment to support and enhance the diversity and cultural and global awareness of students, faculty, and staff.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

• Previous experience with simulation learning technology.
• Experience in a higher education environment. 
• A bachelor's degree in health education, health science, or education from an accredited institution. 

DUTIES: 
55%        Simulation Operator

• Operate and program various high-fidelity mannequins and software.
• Support in role-playing applications, props placement, and moulage set-up to create a simulated healthcare setting.
• Maintain current knowledge of simulation equipment catalogs and operation manuals.
• Operate audio/visual equipment used in simulation.
• Assist with training faculty in the use of simulation equipment.

35%        Day-to-Day Operations in the Clinical Learning Center

• Set up and take down simulation supplies and equipment.
• Maintain a clean and orderly environment in the skills lab.
• Maintain records for ordering of supplies and equipment.
• Maintain index/cataloging system for locating supplies and equipment.
• Inventory and order supplies and equipment to maintain stock supplies.
• Stock carts and shelves from ordered supplies.
• Document the use of laboratory and clinic areas by faculty, students, and others.
• Collaborate with the Director of Clinical Learning on lab, student, and staff scheduling.
• Maintain mannequins, equipment, and supplies in clean, working order.
• Assist with the coordination and management of standardized participants. 
• Work collaboratively with faculty and instructional academic staff, support staff, and Department Chair

10%        Record Keeping and Reports

• Maintain student files and records.
• Provide reports as needed.

UW-Eau Claire is the only public university in northwestern Wisconsin that offers a baccalaureate nursing degree. All programs are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
