Intercollegiate Athletics: Assistant Baseball Coach/Outdoor Facility Maintenance Coordinator

POSITION: A full-time position is available in Intercollegiate Athletics beginning July 1, 2024.  The working title of this assignment is Assistant Baseball Coach (57%) and Outdoor Facility Maintenance Coordinator (43%) with an official title in the Coach title series.  The salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution is required.  
  • Demonstrated experience and success of all duties listed below.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Commitment to athletic excellence within an academic environment.
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules.
  • Prior college coaching experience.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusivity.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • A master's degree. 
  • Demonstrated recruiting experience and success.

ASSISTANT BASEBALL COACH RESPONSIBILITIES (57%):

  • Assist the head coach in directing a highly successful program within the guidelines of the University, the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC), and NCAA Division III.
  • Assist in the recruitment and retention of qualified student athletes consistent with the academic standards of the University. Organize and implement highly effective recruit campus visits.
  • Assist with the care and inventory of equipment for the program.
  • Assist with the promotion of the sport with students, alumni, and members of the community.
  • Assist with promoting program revenue generation related to the program.
  • Participate in department fundraising, camps and clinics and public relations events.
  • Lead all Blugold Baseball camps and clinics under the advisement of Head Coach.
  • Oversee social media platforms for baseball that promote the program.
  • Maximize the physical talent of the team through quality teaching and coaching, and the promotion of teamwork.
  • Monitor academic progress by student athletes involving grade reports, study skill development, and Counseling.
  • Coordinate team travel and logistics, including vehicles, lodging, and meals.
  • Assist in the development of scouting reports and film analysis.
  • Assume other duties as agreed upon by the Head Coach and Athletics Director. 

OUTDOOR FACILITY MAINTENANCE COORDINATOR & McPHEE/OLSON EVENTS (43%)

PRINCIPAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES (BOLLINGER FIELDS)

  • Set up, line, and maintain 46 acres of outdoor recreational space and related equipment for Intramural program, Sport Clubs, and Varsity Athletics (including but not limited to):
  • Maintain storage shed, equipment, and supplies (including but not limited to):
  • Recruit, hire, train, assign job duties and payroll for student staff.
  • Assist with set-up and lining fields for university sponsored special events (see Mazevo for schedule).
  • Coordinate with Assistant Director of Recreation & Sport Operations and maintenance staff on daily and weekly projects on outdoor spaces.
  • Attend all University Recreation staff meetings, retreats, and trainings.

PRINCIPAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES (SIMPSON FIELDS)

  • Coordinate with Athletic staff to ensure proper training of student staff to set up, line, and maintain practice fields.
  • Coordinate with Athletic staff to ensure proper grooming of the turf field.
  • Coordinate with Athletic coaching staff who use Simpson Fields to ensure the storage room, equipment, and supplies are being maintained (including but not limited to):
  • Drag and line all intramural softball fields daily.
  • Drag and line baseball field daily.
  • Paint foul lines on varsity softball field when needed (see Mazevo for schedule).
  • Set up and maintain line on flag football fields weekly.
  • Set up and maintain lines/goals on all soccer fields weekly.
  • Maintain storage shed, equipment, and supplies (including but not limited to):
  • Recruit, hire, train, assign job duties and payroll for student staff.

  • Other duties and responsibilities as needed by the Recreation & Sport Operation Department.
