Integrated Marketing and Communication: Social Media Specialist

POSITION: A full-time, professional academic staff position is available in Integrated Marketing and Communications beginning August 1, 2024. The working title for this assignment is Social Media Specialist with an official title of Marketing Specialist.  This is a renewable assignment, contingent on performance and funding. The salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, journalism, or a related field.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to tailor messages for different audiences.
  • Creative mindset with a keen eye for design aesthetics and storytelling.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to interpret social media data and make data-driven decisions.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Proven experience in managing and growing social media platforms for a brand or organization.
  • In-depth knowledge of social media platforms, trends, best practices, and analytics tools.
  • Strong understanding of social media algorithms, content optimization, and community management.
  • Experience in higher education or a related field is a plus.

DUTIES: 

  • Develop and execute comprehensive social media strategies aligned with the university's goals and target audiences.
  • Manage and maintain the university's social media presence on platforms such as Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, X/Twitter, and TikTok.
  • Create and collaborate with other content creators to produce and share engaging, authentic, and visually appealing content including posts, videos, graphics, and other multimedia assets.
  • Monitor social media trends, best practices, and emerging platforms to stay ahead of the curve and identify new opportunities for engagement.
  • Collaborate with various departments, faculty, staff, and student organizations to gather content and promote university initiatives through social media.
  • Monitor and respond to comments, messages, and inquiries on social media platforms in a timely and professional manner.
  • Analyze social media metrics and generate reports to measure the effectiveness of campaigns and make data-driven recommendations for improvement.
  • Manage student social media interns to create engaging content from the student perspective.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends, social media tools, and platform updates to continually enhance the university's social media presence.
  • Collaborate with the integrated marketing and communications team to unite social media efforts with broader marketing strategies.
