Our People

Intro

If you asked the many alumni of the American Indian Studies program, they would tell you that since its inception in the 1970s, it has been the faculty who have made this program as special as it is. Students develop deep and lasting relationships with the instructors, they return frequently to campus for events or just to visit, and they maintain bonds that last a lifetime.

My artwork investigates the cultural shifts of small fishing and farming communities. The artwork is site-specific: The history of a place, its people, and the analysis of cultural materials are intimately tied to the artwork I produce to express the conditions in which people work and live.

Gretchen Peters teaches courses in the music history series for music majors, and a variety of Liberal Education courses that address the place of music in society for students across campus.  Her research interests range from urban music in medieval France to Indianist compositions in the early twentieth century and their connection to government policies of assimilation for Native Americans.
