Internships give our students a glimpse into a few of the specific avenues of practical application of the degree.  All majors participate in a final capstone experience, the “Social Justice Practicum” (WGSS 498). As a culminating experience, students work collectively to understand and address community needs. The capstone students gain practical experience in social justice advocacy by working with community non-profits such as the Black and Brown Womyn Power Coalition, the Chippewa Valley LGBTQ+ Community Center, the Community Table, the Family Support Center/CASA, the Eau Claire City-County Health Department, Power of Perception, and Western Dairyland.  

Students can also experience interning at other organizations on campus (for example at the Gender and Sexuality Resource Center or the Intersectional Women’s Center). Students need to register for WGSS 498.

Student organizations provide an opportunity to connect with classmates, faculty, and other community members who share your passions near and far.  

IOTA IOTA IOTA Honor Society

IOTA IOTA IOTA (Triota) is a national honor society that was started at the Metropolitan State University (MSU) - Denver in 1985 and has grown to 108 chapters nationwide in the last 35 years. The Greek letter, Iota, was selected for the name to represent the three goddesses Inana, Ishtar, and Isis. Triota strives to maintain feminist values and promote equity, diversity, and inclusivity (EDI), and an overall supportive academic environment for students.

As a member of Alpha Tau, the UWEC chapter of Triota, you will be part of the larger IOTA IOTA IOTA community nationwide.

Eligibility Requirements

1. Students need to be a Women’s, Gender, and Sexualities (WGSS) major or minor.
2. Students must have completed 9 credits of WGSS courses.
3. Students must have at least a 3.0 GPA in WGSS courses AND at least a 3.0 GPA overall

Women Uniting and Fighting (WUF) is a coalition of students, faculty, and staff who combat sexism and misogyny at UW-Eau Claire through activism, advocacy, and educational programming. One of their main accomplishments so far has been advocating for the Intersectional Women’s Center, currently located in Hibbard Hall 385.

WUF believes that system-wide changes to the culture and climate of sexism, racism, and misogyny at UWEC are necessary for gender and racial justice. They believe that, although women are a majority on our campus, they are still institutionally marginalized and face gender discrimination, sexual harassment, and violence. For women students and faculty of color in particular, experiences of sexism and misogyny often intersect with those of racism and xenophobia. The Intersectional Women’s Center, one of WUF’s key projects, represents and provides a supportive community space for the diverse population of women at UWEC.
