Intro

The Sonnentag Center, which includes the Sonnentag Events Center and the John and Carolyn Sonnentag Fieldhouse, provides sports and event spaces that will serve UW-Eau Claire Blugold athletic teams, students, the Eau Claire community.

How Blugolds Use The Sonnentag Center

Opened in 2024, The Sonnentag includes:

A major event facility with a total capacity of 5,000, which brings big-name artists to Eau Claire
An 84,000-square-foot space featuring a 120-yard artificially turfed field, giving a space for Blugold Athletics to practice and play
The Center for Health and Wellbeing, offering cardio and weight equipment as well as personal training and group exercise programs for UWEC students
Offices for Blugold Athletics
A new Mayo Clinic Health System Diagnostic Imaging and Sports Medicine Center, providing services to area athletes and active Eau Claire residents

John and Carolyn Sonnentag fell in love with UWEC, and one another, while attending college here in the 1960s. Thanks to their vision and dedication, The Sonnentag will enrich this campus and community for generations.

Nothing gets folks as energized as the Blugold Marching Band, and their field house performance for The Sonnentag ribbon cutting was spectacular. The field house will also offer a BMB rehearsal location for inclement weather days when they cannot rehearse outdoors.

Students at UW-Eau Claire now have access to the Sonnentag Health and Wellness Center, offering top notch fitness and training facilities. A river view from the treadmill is a bonus for any workout!

In addition to cardio machines and group fitness classes, students can take advantage of a fully-loaded weight room and personal trainers.

Blugold students invested in the creation of The Sonnentag through commitment of student segregated fees, and they wisely pushed for the building to seek LEED certification in sustainability. How about a GOLD level certification — now that's impressive!

Catch A Show

The Sonnentag replaced the 70-year-old Zorn Arena on UW-Eau Claire's campus and is specially designed to accommodate multiple types of events, including athletic tournaments and indoor concerts.

Real Patients, Real Equipment

The $11 million, 20,000-square-foot Diagnostic Imaging and Sports Medicine Center in the Sonnetag Center offers sports medicine, human performance enhancement, and imaging services for patients across Northwest Wisconsin. The space plays a vital role in training UWEC healthcare professionals, and as a Blugold, you'll have direct access to it.
